In honor of St. Brigid's Day

I organized my sewing supplies. Her day is actually February 2, but today is the day I had time and new boxes from Daiso, for the big clean out. St. Brigid is my patron saint/favored pagan goddess. She is the goddess/saint of mid-winter, and she is in charge of sewing and needle crafts, weaving, and dairy products.

I have been doing a lot of sewing lately, and have some on going projects, but I thought in honor of the coming spring, and her day, I'd do some organizing. I'll probably sew a bit too :).

Here's some of what I started with:

And my lovely new Daiso boxes:

And here's how it turned out:

I found more stuff after that photo, so I had to sort that too. I included a few sewing boxes that I tidied as well.

Here it is in its temporary home:

I'm hoping to repurpose an old 1940s typing desk for a sewing table, and if I manage that, a lot of this stuff will end up in there, but until then, I'm pretty pleased with the tidiness.

Next post will probably feature my new hobby: Sashiko, a style of Japanese quilting and embroidery.

Little fushia bag

I thought as my first official post, I'd choose something a bit unconventional. Usually when I make a bag (and I've made dozens; I have rather a bag obsession, like most women), I sew, knit, or crochet one. Not this time. Recently at the bookstore, I found this fabulous little book: Simply Sublime Bags by Jodi Kahn. How could I pass up a name like that?! The book features no sew and low sew creations that are quite fun and innovative, so I had to try one. I chose the Keyhole Clutch and made this little cutie:

It's a fat quarter on the outside, and turquoise duct tape on the inside. It uses staples and duct tape to keep it all together. It holds all of my essentials, as you can see, and I can find it anywhere in the house, as it glows. A very successful first project out of this wonderful book.
This blog, as I dreamt of it this morning, is a collection, primarily for my own interest and reference, of what "feminine" things I'm currently up to. I have a website for these things, but it doesn't really lend itself to "updating" regularly--I'm hoping that this will.

I hope that I keep it as well as, or better than my other blog, Gossamer Strands. I miss blogging, and right now, the things that interest me most are the traditional things that women everywhere have done: cooking, sewing, knitting, gardening, etc. It may also be a place for rants on how the feminine arts are undervalued.

I'm am quite interested to see if this goes anywhere.
